Big Hill Towing & Recovery Service has operated in Cochrane, Alberta, since 1977, and has been owned and run by Jack Richards and his family for the past 22 years. Jack got his start driving for his father's company, Red's Towing, in the early 1950s, later consolidated Buster's Towing and City Wide Towing in the early 1990s, and eventually purchased Big Hill Towing itself. The company's phones have been answered 24 hours a day for more than four decades, and its team of AMA-approved, certified CAA contractors handles light and medium-duty towing, heavy towing and recovery, vehicle lockouts, boosting, flatbed and motorcycle towing, off-road recovery, and ice and water recovery for vehicles that go through the ice or into area lakes. The company also moves oversized or unusual loads, including sheds and shelters, and transfers loads between vehicles when needed. A newer division, BHT Heavy Duty Repair, provides mechanical inspections and repairs for heavy-duty trucks and equipment. Recovery specialist Randy Pace, the company's service manager, holds WreckMaster Level 8/9R certification and has worked as a licensed heavy-duty technician for 38 years. Coverage extends across Cochrane, Cremona, Water Valley, Bottrel, Morley, Kananaskis, Bragg Creek, Bearspaw, Springbank Hill, Waiparous Village, McLean Creek and into Calgary. Office hours run weekdays, but towing service itself is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
